Dear OCDSB OCV Families,

Welcome to Ottawa-Carleton Virtual (OCV) Elementary School! Our school has six campuses, each run by a Principal and Vice-Principal team and we are working hard and ready to greet you and your child(ren) on the first day of school, Friday, September 18, 2020.

This past week, we have been finalizing teaching assignments and assigning students to classes. In the next coming days, you will receive an email confirming your child’s class and educator names as well as other updates. Look for ongoing emails throughout the year from your campus administrator team!

As we prepare to begin classes on Friday, September 18th, here are a few things that families should know:

  • Schedule:
    • The OCV Elementary school day will run school days from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will follow the same calendar as all OCDSB elementary schools with regards to school breaks and statutory holidays.
    • Your child’s educator team will be in contact with you this week to share a schedule, outlining specific times for synchronous and asynchronous learning for the first week of school as well as other routines related to the virtual school day.
  • Access to Technology:
    • To participate in remote learning, parents are asked to ensure their child has access to a device (e.g. computer, laptop, chromebook, tablet) and internet.
    • For students in need, Chromebooks and WiFi hotspots can be made available by contacting your regular home school. Schools will do their best to supply a device or hotspot as soon one becomes available.
    • This week, consider having your child practice logging into their account. If your child has lost or does not have access to their login credentials, more information on how to retrieve these credentials will be coming soon.
  • School Supplies:
    • In addition to virtual learning, students may engage in learning activities that require other school supplies, such as writing and basic art materials. Please see this voluntary list of school supplies that you may consider purchasing. Your child’s home school may also have a limited supply of materials that they can provide if you are in need.
  • Student Orientation:
    • This week, students will be receiving communication from their teacher about which Learning Management System (e.g., Google Classroom) they will be using. Students and parents will be provided with resources to assist with getting a better understanding of the LMS.
    • There is a social networking and on-line safety webinar for students in OCV with Paul Davis on September 15, 16 and 17 for students in Gr 4 - 12. The sessions are free and prior registration is not required. For more information, please refer to this link

We know that families have many questions about the school year. We are working to answer your questions on our Frequently Asked Questions page

As we enter a very unique school year, we are committed to working together with families, students and staff to make this a successful year full of academic and personal growth for all. We are excited to launch OCV Elementary and welcome you to our community!
