Terry Fox Virtual Run

Terry Fox Virtual Run
Posted on 10/05/2020

Staff of the Ottawa-Carleton Virtual School (OCV) are planning virtual classroom activities to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Terry's Marathon of Hope. You and your child are invited to participate in a voluntary walk/run on Wednesday, October 7th. If your child is going to participate in the voluntary Terry Fox Walk/Run during Asynchronous Learning Time, they must have a parent/guardian present with them. Supervision is required.

Here are some things families should consider if they want to participate:

  • can the run be done following guidance on social distancing from public health

  • participation is voluntary

  • consider beginning with a warm-up and ending with a cool down

  • choose an area that is appropriate and you consider safe. It might be better to repeat the same route a few times rather than a longer route ( for example around their block 3 times rather than a longer 1-time route)

  • do a safety check ‘walk through’ in order to identify potential problems prior to the initial use of the route or course.

  • determine that no one is crossing busy intersections unless directly supervised by parent/guardian

  • think about any medical concerns, for example, asthma that may affect participation or raise concerns about physical exercise

  • Bring a water bottle

Note: The choice to participate in fundraising is also voluntary. Should you choose, online fundraising is easy, safe and donors are issued receipts immediately!
